10 Best Neighborhood Parks

With the market finally on the mend, we went house-hunting to come up with a list of more than 50 of the region’s best neighborhoods, from Annapolis to Roland Park to Havre de Grace, and then tracked down some of the folks buying there.

Canton Waterfront Park
Canton
This modest bit of green has a dog park, boat launch, and views of Fort McHenry.

Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park
Edmondson
Baltimore’s largest park, it’s home to the Carrie Murray Nature Center and the 19th-century Orianda House.

Carroll Park
Pratt Monroe/Pigtown
Once part of Charles Carroll’s Mount Clare estate, there are athletic fields, basketball courts, a skate park, and a nine-hole golf course.

Robert E. Lee Park
Baltimore County/City
The 415-acre tract sports a new pedestrian bridge over Roland Run, the Paw Point dog park, light-rail access, and canoeing and kayaking on Lake Roland.

Patterson Park
Baltimore
Check out the new Patterson Park dog park, plus a host of events and a rehab of the courts for both tennis and Ecuavolley, an Ecuadorian spin on volleyball.

Piney Run Park
Sykesville
Piney Run Park hosts fishing tournaments on the 300-acre lake plus more than five miles of hiking trails, a climbing rock, and a nature center.

Pine Valley Park
Manchester
With a stream, a pond, and more than four miles of hiking trails, Pine Valley surrounds the Charlotte’s Quest Nature Center in northeastern Carroll County.

Centennial Park
Ellicott City
Though it includes sports facilities like tennis and basketball courts, there’s also woodland and wetland ecosystems.

Harford Glen Park
Bel Air
In addition to providing outdoor education programs for students, the park opens its woods, fields, and marshes to the public on weekends.

Rocks State Park
Pylesville/Deer Creek Valley
There’s fishing and tubing on Deer Creek, plus the 190-foot rock cliff known as The King and Queen Seat and Kilgore Falls.
