Let’s be honest—shopping for shorts might be even harder than shopping for the perfect pair of jeans. With a wide array of styles, colors, and materials to choose from, finding the best pair for your body type can be exhausting. So we’ve gathered some of our favorites to make your life a little easier.

Cutoff shorts w/ appliqué: This is by far the most intimidating pair on our list, but both cutoffs and appliqués are having a moment. These shorts are best for more petite frames as they don’t leave too much to the imagination but do give the illusion of longer legs. Pair with your favorite T-shirt and cute summer espadrilles. ($168) at South Moon Under. -David Colwell
HYFVE pink belted shorts: The scalloped hem of these shorts is sweet and feminine. With a thicker fabric and added belt, they create a defined and flattering waistline, which means they look great on a curvier figure. Pair these with strappy heels, a fun top, and clutch for a night on the town. ($29) at Punch! -David Colwell
Habitat camo shorts: Camo is a fun pattern to throw into your wardrobe to add something unexpected and effortlessly cool. This pair sits higher on the waist and is cuffed, allowing you to play around with the length depending on your height and/or your amount of courage. Pair with a basic T-shirt and ankle booties. ($79) at South Moon Under. -David Colwell
Very J striped shorts: Hello, comfort! This is what happens when your favorite pajama shorts and your favorite athletic shorts have a very cute baby. This pair has an elastic waistband, and is made with a lightweight material and finished with a cute rope belt designed to make the waist appear smaller. Pair with a white blouse and a cute pair of flat sandals for a casual dinner look. ($31) at Doubledutch Boutique. -David Colwell
Hotel Rocks Peachy striped shorts: The retro look of these striped shorts gets us all sorts of excited to indulge in a soft serve cone on the boardwalk, or maybe take a casual bike ride by the ocean. This pair is high waisted, contouring and cinching the waist while accentuating the legs. Pair with a looser cropped shirt and wedges to make your legs look even longer. ($45) at Doubledutch Boutique. -David Colwell
