O’s Smash All-Time Record 56 HRs in June

Birds up five games in AL East; Phelps makes fifth Olympics and other sports news.

The Orioles get robbed of five home runs this month and still break all-time mark for June.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, O’s hitters have been victimized by multiple, over-the-wall outfield grabs this month. Never mind, we still broke the old June record (set by the Mariners in 1999) an HR from Hyun Soo Kim last night—finishing the month with 56 dingers. More importantly, our blazing bats have now put us five games up on Boston.

Michael Phelps is the first U.S. male swimmer to make five Olympics.
Baltimore’s favorite Aquaman qualified for his fifth Olympics this week with a performance in the 200-meter butterfly this week he called “the hardest swim of his life.” After a second drunk driving arrest in the fall of 2014, Phelps seems to have taken a long look at his life. He also recently became a father. He’s getting married, too. And now he’s come back to add to his already record haul of Olympic medals. Go Mike. We’ll be rooting for you in Rio.

Check the 11th annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Games this weekend at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Baseball may be America’s pastime and this is July 4 weekend, but Marylanders know that lacrosse actually predates baseball in America—by a lot. The 2016 Senior All-America Games are scheduled for Saturday, July 2, with the girls facing-off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game following at 8 p.m. It’s a great chance to see the best high school players in the country—including a ton of area young men and women— competing against each other on the same field.

Elvis is in the house(s.)
Ravens sack specialist Elvis Dumervil recently took his first trip to the country where his mom and dad were born. It was a chance to learn more about his family, but also to see first-hand how his charitable efforts are helping Haitians still struggling to overcome the horrific earthquake that struck the island nation six years ago.

Dumervil is financing the construction of 58 houses for low-income Haitians—it’s his jersey number as Ravens fans know—at a total cost of $377,000, or $6,500 per house. Dumervil grew up in the “Little Haiti” section of Miami, playing football in the streets as a kid. According to BaltimoreRavens.com, there are more than 50 current Haitian players in the NFL.
