A lifelong dog lover, Klima began Lifting Others Up (LOU), Pet Loss Grief Support Group in 2018 after the death of her beloved Pomeranian-poodle mix, Lucy (or Lou). Klima is professionally certified to facilitate the healing process after the passing of a pet and helps others work through all the difficult phases of grief and bereavement. Lifting Others Up connects people in the Baltimore area and beyond through in-person annual events, monthly Zoom meetings, and a popular Facebook group.

“We’re listening to stories and offering anecdotes or advice,” she says. “It’s just talking it out and, in this talking, there’s healing and love. It’s a win-win all around.”

Hyesook Chung is celebrating her fifth anniversary with the nonprofit Baltimore Civic Fund (BCF), Baltimore’s best-kept secret when it comes to fiscal sponsorships, program development, and support for youth initiatives.
