2/15-2/21. TOM MILLER WEEK
Exhibitions. Many Baltimoreans may not realize that they already know works of art by Tom Miller. This iconic Baltimore artist’s colorful, vibrant murals linger around many corners of the city, with his unique Afro-Deco style representing the Black experience and enlivening local neighborhoods from Station North to Cherry Hill. Miller attended Carver Vocational-Technical High School and was one of the first Black students to enroll at the Maryland Institute College of Art after its desegregation. He was also one of the first local Black artists to have a solo exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1995. With deep roots in Baltimore, Tom Miller’s legacy is honored for the sixth year with a full week of community events and exhibitions dedicated to the artist and his work at various locations across the city. 2/5. HANDMADE WITH LOVE

2/6-8. BALTIMORE CRANKIE FESTIVAL
Performing Arts. During this locally loved annual festival—the largest of its kind in the U.S.—artists from near and far unveil their handmade crankies, aka scrolled panorama folk art that visually aids a story or song. 2/6-3/1. AUGUST WILSON’S FENCES
Theater. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the story of Troy Maxson, a former Negro League baseball star wrestling with resentment that he didn’t live out his dream on the field, illuminating the invisible fences that keep us from making our aspirations reality. Lectures & Classes. Learn about Maryland’s Black culture of the past, present, and future through interactive activities, crafts, STEM programs, and meet-and-greets with community members who are impacting the trajectory of local Black history today. Fundraisers & Galas. Comedy. Theater. Emmy Award–winning writer and producer Lena Waithe presents her playwriting debut, “trinity,” with the story following three women acting out the fantasies that they are too afraid to live out in reality, with their whimsical role-play transforming into an existential adventure. 2/13. BSA BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHOWCASE

Comedy. Who better to spend Valentine’s Day with than the Pope of Trash? Family. For over 20 years, Ladew Gardens has invited visitors to take part in the art of making maple syrup. Exhibitions. During this annual group show by the tastemaking Galerie Myrtis, a curated exhibition will be on display, featuring exceptional works of art by a diverse array of African-American and African Diasporic artists, including several from the Baltimore area. 2/24-28. CIAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Sports. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is the first African-American athletic conference and a celebrated Division II.
