Inspired by an old traveling Big Top, the Fashion Awards MD (FAMD) has chosen “Traveling Fashion Circus” as this year’s theme. With roaming circus acts juggling, hooping, and performing balance routines, and circus-inspired garments on the runway, the night of fashion, hosted by Jaslene Gonzalez, former winner of America’s Next Top Model, will amaze spectators at the Brown Center at MICA on Saturday, June 21.

The awards ceremony promises to recognize “everyone who works hard to make things happen,” explains FAMD founder and producer Lana Rae, above, who is wearing a dress by last year’s winner (in the High Fashion category) Vincent Licari, a hat by previous judge Ella Pritsker, and hair and makeup by this year’s nominee in the Emerging Category, Charm City Top Knots. “From the makeup artists to the photographers, the clothing stylists, models, and more—it takes a lot of people to make fashion come to life!”

About 20 awards in 10 categories such as photography, hair and makeup, media, and wardrobe will be handed out. These honorees are publicly nominated via online submissions, which are then graded by a panel of judges to determine who will appear on the final voter’s ballot.

The event has more to offer than just a celebration. There will be opportunities for “networking, learning about the nominees, meeting new potential clients, expanding your business reach, and getting a dose of inspiration,” Rae says.
