Although Baltimore might not be healed from the Ravens’ early playoff loss, this year’s Super Bowl matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs is Sunday, and it’s time to celebrate the biggest event in football season. Super Bowl parties call for burgers, wings, beer, and more beer, and what better place to celebrate than at a local hotspot? So sit back, relax, and check out these neighborhood bars for various deals that pair perfectly with a view of the game.

Crossbar: If you’re looking to grab a few drinks before the game starts, Crossbar in Federal Hill will be featuring deals from open to close. Enjoy $3 domestic beers, $5 Smirnoff bombs and Rumple Minze shots, $7 Miller Lite liters, $10 Blue Moon liters, $15 domestic buckets, and a $20 deal on eight wings and any liter of beer. 18 E Cross St.

Hair of the Dog: Head to South Baltimore for $30 bottomless domestic drafts, rail liquor, and house wine to pair with the game-day buffet. Hair of the Dog will be starting its Super Bowl party at 5:30 p.m. and hosting various giveaways and raffles throughout. 1649 S Hanover St. 5:30 p.m.

The Point in Fells: This Fells Point favorite will be pouring $6 Ravens Crushes, $6 game-day bombs, $12 Bud Light pitchers, and $15 domestic buckets starting at 3 p.m. Join the “Ravens Club,” and drink from a bottomless glass for $25, which can be filled with domestic drafts, Truly hard seltzers, Ice Picks, vodka lemonades, or screwdrivers. The game will be displayed on all TV’s with the sound up high, so there’s no need to worry about missing a play. 1738 Thames St. 3 p.m.

Mother’s Federal Hill Grille: While best known for their Purple Patio events during Ravens home games, Mother’s in Federal Hill will still be celebrating the Super Bowl and serving up game-day favorites. For $30 during the game you can enjoy a tailgate-themed buffet (think meatballs and wings), as well as an open bar featuring beer and rail drinks. 1113 S Charles St. 6:30 p.m.

Pratt Street Ale House: This viewing party will feature drink deals including $3 select domestic bottles, as well as $5 Oliver Brewing Company pints, glasses of wine, and rail drinks. Known for its soft pretzels and beer cheese, the menu of gastropub fare at Pratt Street Ale House has something for everyone. If you’re hoping to cheer on your favorite team from Hampden, check out Pratt Street’s sister-spot Five and Dime Ale House on the Avenue for the exact same deals. 206 W Pratt St. 6:30 p.m.

Nacho Mama’s: While not your traditional sports bar, Nacho Mama’s locations in Towson and Canton will be showing the Super Bowl with various specials. Starting at 6:30 p.m. you can enjoy $1 Natty Boh drafts, $3 domestic bottles, $6 Graceland margaritas and bombs, and $15 Graceland hubcaps.
Kona Grill: Inner Harbor staple Kona Grill will be serving up all-day happy hour for football fanatics. If the bar scene isn’t for you, they are also promoting their tailgate package for $99, which includes two orders of chicken satay, pepperoni and margherita flatbread, Kona sliders, lettuce wraps, and potstickers, for dine-in and to-go service. 1 E Pratt St. 11 a.m.

Just when we thought we had finally escaped the “Baby Shark” song invading our social media feeds, the ominous theme from Jaws will now begin playing on a loop as Discovery Channel brings back its annual promotion celebrating the gargantuan fish. Shark Week is officially upon us, and outposts all over the city are celebrating in style.

The National Aquarium, one of the Inner Harbor’s crown jewels, is offering a specialized tour if you dare to walk with the sharks. But for those with cravings for more tasty shark-themed specials, there are plenty of ways to get in on the fun without going to the beach. From ocean-themed drinks to edible shark candy, here are a few highlights:

7/28-8/4: Woody’s Cantina
Enjoy Shark Week with fin-credible specials at this rooftop spot in Fells Point. This Mexican restaurant is serving up (Great) White Claws or Landshark bottles for $5 or less. Of course, you can catch the main event—while taking in the rooftop views—with the 24/7 shark coverage on all of its TV screens.

7/28-8/4: Black Eyed Suzie’s
Suzie’s in Bel Air hosts regular specials like martini Mondays, kids-eat-free Thursdays, and daily happy hours from 2-7 p.m., but this week the neighborhood bar is partnering with Malibu and Jameson to bring you shark-inspired food and drink specials. You can drink like a fish at this celebration while tuning in to the weeklong Discovery Channel event.

8/3: Wayward Smokehouse Viewing Party
Head over to this party at Wayward Smokehouse in Federal Hill to get hooked on Landshark specials, shark-bite bombs, games, gifts, giveaways, and fittingly themed mini pools. Not into seafood? Classic American barbecue dishes are smoked daily by executive chef and pit master Josh White.

7/28-8/4: Atwater’s
Swim over to Atwater’s to find a shark lurking in your latte. In addition to the coffees topped with shark-designed latte art, the homegrown cafe will also have all of its signature sandwiches and salads for a meal you can really sink your teeth into. Don’t let the lack of seafood fool you, shark week is in full swing here.

7/28-8/4: Nacho Mama’s
This Tex-Mex favorite features margaritas famously served in hubcaps. For Shark Week, Nacho Mama’s is serving up a scene from Jaws in the form of a blue margarita with a facedown figurine, splash of grenadine, and blue-gummy sharks circling. It might seem intense, but you’ll be drinking in comfort on dry land.

7/28-8/4: Papi’s Tacos
In Hampden, Papi’s Tacos is mixing up a variety of ocean-themed cocktails. The newest location will bait customers with a frozen Shark Week house margarita featuring a gummy-ring life preserver. But, don’t stop there. There’s also an expanded drink menu including the tequila-infused “Mako-Rita,” “Coral Reef” (Malibu rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, whipped cream), and the “Hot Hammerhead” with jalepeno-infused tequila and club soda.

7/28-8/4: Charm City Chocolate
This corner candy store made the perfect treat to lure in customers with a sweet tooth. The chocolatiers have fished out chocolate-covered blue raspberry gummy sharks, making the man-eater become the pray. In this case, we strongly encourage you to play with your food.

7/28-8/4: Frazier’s on the Avenue
Any shark would appreciate these fishy specials, and Frazier’s includes an array of seafood to devour. Chomp down on beer-battered ahi tuna bites, fish tacos, and salmon cake sliders. With these features, it is hard not to take the bait.

As the sun beats down on Baltimore in these dog days of summer, everyone could use an excuse to cool off. And spots all across Charm City are offering unbeatable drink specials on Wednesday, July 24 in honor of one of our country’s most arbitrary holidays: National Tequila Day.

Taking the cake for, perhaps, the most creative drink we’ve seen in tequila’s honor is one that seems to intoxicate and re-hydrate you at the same time: a frozen Patron Pedialyte margarita (Patron Silver, strawberry or blue raspberry pedialyte, lime, and agave) created by bar manager Liz Jankiewicz of Ouzo Bay and Ouzo Beach.

“Not only is it good to throw some electrolytes at the guest while it’s hot out,” Jankiewicz says, “but it actually pairs really well with the tequila because of the level of salinity in it. Just like if you’re having your margarita with salt on the rim.”

And this holiday will be a chance for those who haven’t made it out of town this summer to get a taste of an island vacation: “Having a margarita taps into the idea of a destination,” Jankiewicz says. “It turns your normal watering hole turns into a getaway.”

Whether you want to sip on a frozen margarita, or throw back shots like it’s your day job, there are plenty of places to partake. So get your sliced limes and salted rims ready, and check out some of the best spots to spend the holiday.

Blue Agave: Named after tequila’s essential ingredient, this Federal Hill destination is certainly ringing in the holiday with cheer. The bar will feature $2 discounts on all-things tequila-related, including margaritas, flights, and shots, as well as discounted bottle club membership offers. And with their featured tequila of the month being Casamigos, no one will leave unsatisfied.

Canton Crossing Wine & Spirits: If you’re looking for a bargain, this Canton spirits shop will offer free—yes, we said free—samples of various Rooster Rojo tequilas, which are made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave. Make sure to swing by between 4 and 6 p.m. to try blanco, reposado, and anejo varieties.

El Bufalo Tequila Bar & Kitchen: Wondering why this Canton spot is a rightful place to celebrate the Mexican spirit? The name speaks for itself. El Bufalo’s specials include $6 shots and $8 margaritas that make use of the restaurant’s catalog of more than 50 tequila brands. Any purchase of a Casamigos, Don Julio, or Olmeca Altos drinks will get you a raffle ticket for a Bottle Club giveaway.

Lee’s Pint & Shell: This Canton haunt is the place to be for Don Julio fans. Lee’s is offering a $10 deal that includes two 5-oz. margaritas, a shot of anejo, and a shot of blanco—all of the Don Julio variety.

Nacho Mama’s: Both the Towson and Canton locations of this Elvis-themed cantina will feature all-day specials for tequila lovers. Flights of Casamigos, Patron, and Herradura will be served along with presentation mats and tasting notes. If you’re not up for that, try a special shot in one of the bar’s renowned hubcap margaritas. We recommend the “Pama Sunset” (Pomegranate liqueur, house tequila, and homemade lime mix), the “Blue Suede Shoes” (El Jimador, Blue Curacao, and homemade lime mix), or the “King” (Don Julio Reposado, Limeade, and Grand Marnier float).

Ouzo Bay: Harbor East’s Mediterranean mainstay is offering a lineup of can’t-miss cocktails for the holiday. Mention this very write-up for $9 drinks like the “Aleppo Pines” made with Patron Roca Silver, yellow chartreuse, retsina reduction, oregano honey, and lemon. Or, head across the street to it’s outdoor sister bar Ouzo Beach for the frozen Pedialyte margarita or a “Paloma Collins” (Patron Roca Silver, pamplemousse, honey, lime, club soda, and salt and a tri-peppercorn rim). All frozen Patron drinks at Ouzo Beach are blended using a stationary bike, so be prepared to bike your own drink if you choose.

Vida Taco Bar: Casamigos is the tequila of choice at this fan-favorite taco joint. Locations in Annapolis, Severna Park, and Harbor Point will serve $10 Casamigos cocktails all day long. Specials include the “Basic” (Casamigos Reposado, Fever-Tree citrus tonic, and fresh lime), the “Mexican Spa Day” (Casamigos Blanco, Fever-Tree cucumber tonic, and fresh mint), and the “Smokey Ginger” (Casamigos Mezcal and Fever-Tree smokey ginger ale).

While Americans are known to embrace the fake mustaches, noise-making maracas, and massive margaritas that are typically associated with Cinco de Mayo, in Mexico, the fifth of May isn’t as big of a party as one might think.

“Our independence is celebrated on the 16th of September,” explains Cocina Luchadoras owner Rosalyn Vera, whose family hails from Puebla, Mexico. “People have the weekend off and usually there’s a parade for Cinco de Mayo, but it’s not nearly as big as the celebrations on our Independence Day.”

Even so, Vera sees Cinco de Mayo—the anniversary of the Mexicans’ unlikely victory over France in the Battle of Puebla in 1862—as a holiday for Americans to celebrate the contributions that Mexican immigrants have made throughout history. In her case, that means sharing her family’s traditions through food.

“We’re happy to be represented in that way,” she says. “Food unites us—I can always see it in people when they come in.”

This weekend, Vera will climb on board the Wilde Thyme food truck for a collaborative pop-up at Monument City Brewing Company on Saturday before pulling out some of her special recipes for Cinco de Mayo service at her Upper Fells Point restaurant. Among the featured tacos will be shredded tinga de pollo, lamb barbacoa, and cochinita pibil—braised shredded pork with citrus.

In addition to Cocina Luchadoras, plenty of other spots around town are featuring eats and drinks in honor of the holiday.

Clavel: A three-day fiesta is in the works at this beloved taqueria and mezcaleria in Remington. To kick off the holiday weekend, Sinaloa-born chef Carlos Raba will head outside to grill carne asada, al pastor, and cebollitas (grilled green onions) during dinner service on May 3. There will also be a ceviche special, and the bar team plans to shake up cilantro margaritas all weekend long. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the big day, enjoy Clavel’s classic brunch plates, including huevos rancheros and chilaquiles with salsa verde, alongside a selection of tacos from the dinner menu. 225 W. 23rd St. 443-900-8983

La Calle: Chef/owner Valentino Sandoval, a native of Puebla, is offering a pages-long list of specials for his first-ever Cinco de Mayo party at La Calle downtown. Head to the restaurant to chow down on $2 tacos, $4 orders of chips and salsa, $5 nachos, $6 empanadas, and $7 ceviches. Wash down all of the discounted snacks with $2 canned beers, $3.50 bottles, and $4.50 drafts. A signature $5 drink menu includes tequila shots, classic margaritas, micheladas, and red and white sangria. 10 South St. 667-312-2964

La Palapa Grill & Cantina: The doors to this annual blowout in Ellicott City open at 10 a.m. Head to the restaurant early for brunch, or stop by throughout the day to dance to live mariachi music, sip cocktails, and enjoy tacos from an outdoor pop-up grill. A portion of all proceeds from the tent in the front parking lot, which will feature a Red Bull bar, tequila drinks, and DJs spinning all day, will benefit Voices for Children Howard County. 8307 Main St, Ellicott City. 410-465-0070

Nacho Mama’s: Both locations of this Tex-Mex hangout in Canton and Towson will be starting things off early with an “Uno and Dos de Mayo” fiesta May 1-2. From 4-8 p.m., enjoy corn hole, margaritas, and the release of Flying Dog’s Numero Dos dark lager. Swing by throughout the weekend to take advantage of $4 Modelo drafts, $18 Corona buckets, and $15 hubcap margaritas equipped with multiple straws for sharing. 2907 O’Donnell St. 410-675-0898

Papi’s Tacos: This Fells Point staple known for its DIY tacos and antojitos (Mexican street food) is going all out with special sips that will replace its typical all-you-can-drink deals on Sundays. Get in the spirit with $3.50 screwdrivers, mimosas, Bloody Marys, and tequila sunrises. Or, if you’re celebrating with a group, indulge in $17 pitchers of Modelo and Pacifico beer, as well as $23 Corona buckets. As an added bonus, the long-awaited Papi’s location in Hampden has officially opened just in time for Cinco de Mayo—promising plenty of food and drink discounts for a bonafide Sunday funday. Multiple locations including 1703 Aliceanna St. 410-299-8480

La Calle: Chef Valentino Sandoval unveiled his modern Mexican cantina in the 10 South Street building downtown earlier this week. The menu reflects the chef’s Mexican roots, while also fusing the global techniques—from French and American to Italian and seafood—that he learned while working under the likes of Marc Vetri and Michelin-rated chef Walter Abrams in Philadelphia before moving to Charm City. Reserve one of the dark wood tables to enjoy dishes like Tijuana Caesar salad, crab empanadas with corn and Oaxaca cheese, oyster mushroom quesadillas, barbacoa tacos with guacamole, and pan-seared salmon with fava beans and huitlacoche (Mexican truffle) aioli. 10 South St. 667-312-2964

Suya Spot: This Randallstown favorite is bringing its authentic Nigerian fare to the burgeoning dining scene in Owings Mills. Suya Spot will cut the ribbon at its second location in the mixed-use Metro Centre development on Friday, July 27. Expect to see chef/owner Fola Jinadu whipping up delicacies including catfish pepper soup, spicy flamed goat, peppered snail, and, of course, the namesake suya (meat skewers) in varieties like shrimp, chicken, fish, and beef. 10309 Grand Central Ave. Ste. 104

COMING SOON

Le Comptoir du Vin: Ever since the baby-sized Bottega relocated to larger digs down the street last year, Station North locals have missed feasting on Tuscan specialties in the cozy dining room. But now, two former Bottega employees are reopening the original Maryland Avenue space—this time as a French wine bar. This fall, chef Will Mester (formerly of Woodberry Kitchen) and his partner Rosemary Liss plan to open Le Comptoir du Vin, which is French for “the wine counter.” The duo recently told the Baltimore Business Journal that they will focus on pairing staples like pâté, roast duck, steak, and chicken with worldly wines from “lesser known regions.” 1709 Maryland Ave.

(Locals have come to love the famous 50-cent oysters during happy hour, $15 lobster dinners on Sundays, and massive Shuckin’ in the Street block parties.) Now, boaters will be happy to hear that the seafood concept is expanding with a sister spot along the water in Sparrows Point. Located at North Point Cove off of Morse Lane, the dock bar is expected to open this fall, highlighting spinoffs of the grub offered at Lee’s in Canton and—judging by its name—plenty of tiki drinks to go around. 4309 Shore Drive, Sparrows Point.

Along with the new look, the restaurant will debut more than 20 new menu items and an updated beverage lineup at the grand reopening. 760 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. 410-647-1100

Cinco de Mayo just so happens to fall on a Friday this year. That means there’s no excuse not to stroll over to your neighborhood bar, feast on spicy snacks, and sip salt-rimmed drinks to honor Mexico’s unlikely victory over France on the fifth of May in 1862. A handful of bars and restaurants are putting their own spin on the tequila-themed holiday this year, offering everything from sombreros and sangria to piñatas and photos with donkeys. Here are our picks for the area’s most festive fiestas:

Clavel: It doesn’t get much more authentic than this modern tacqueria in Remington, which boasts a unique interior with strung lights and plenty of plants. From house-made tortillas to a lengthy mezcal menu, everything about the space is meant to mimic the vibe of owner Lane Harlan’s beloved Oaxaca. Not only is Cinco de Mayo an ideal time to honor the concept’s Mexican roots, but it also marks the restaurant’s (almost) two-year anniversary. To celebrate, Clavel is throwing down on May 5, offering roasted meats, sizzling salsas, classic vampiro cocktails (a tequila-based version of a Bloody Mary) and, of course, plenty of margaritas to go around. 225 W. 23rd St., 443-900-8983

El Bufalo: This O’Donnell Square favorite is a go-to party place no matter what the occasion. For Cinco de Mayo, the bar is going all out with bucket specials, family-style platters of nachos and tacos, and an all-day live music lineup. Get an early start (doors open at 11 a.m.) with discounted Mexican beers and Peligroso margaritas while jamming to music spun by DJ Mic L and performances by local singer-songwriters Steve Herrera and Steve Matthews. 2921 O’ Donnell St., 410-814-0594

Federal Hill Fiesta: Though this annual block party got rained out last year, locals are holding out hope for sunny skies this weekend. Gather with friends and neighbors on Sunday, May 7 to partake in the outdoor rager on East Cross Street, which will feature Modello and Corona Light specials, live entertainment, and Mexican street food from neighborhood mainstays Blue Agave, Bandito’s, and No Way Jose. Crowd around the stage to sway to the sounds of local headliners Chris Diller, Pressing Strings, and beloved rockers Pasadena. East Cross Street, $8-9

Jailbreak Brewing: Just in time for Cinco de Mayo—and summer sipping weather—this fan-favorite Laurel brewery is unveiling not one, but two new cervezas. Head to the taproom to enjoy a dual-purpose Cinco de Mayo celebration and release party for the citrusy Ephemeral Volume V and Dew Right, a new blonde ale brewed with honeydew. Plus, the Say Cheese food truck will be on site with its signature sammies to line your stomach before tipping back the fresh-poured pints. 9445 Washington Blvd., Ste. F., Laurel, 443-345-9699

Little Havana: Gather your crew and head to this outpost off of Key Highway to take advantage of a full-blown fiesta featuring live bands, local DJs, waterfront views, sizzling snacks, and an outdoor tent with fully stocked bars. Plus, we hear that the spot plans to have a visiting donkey onsite—so be sure to have your cameras ready. 1325 Key Highway, 410-837-9903

Nacho Mama’s: Both locations of this tried-and-true Tex-Mex hangout in Canton and Towson will be celebrating in style, serving up hearty burritos, fajitas, and quesadillas with the restaurant’s requisite hubcap margaritas for the table. Specials running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. will include $5 Gracelands (Nacho Mama’s house margarita fused with homemade lime mix), $15 Graceland hubcaps, and $1-off specialty margaritas in flavors like Orange Crush, pomegranate, and black raspberry. Multiple locations including 2907 O’Donnell St., 410-675-0898

Papi’s: The annual festivities at this Fells Point taco joint are being extended this year. Throughout the two-day fiesta—which will keep the party going until Saturday, May 6—enjoy a slew of drink specials including $5 select tequila drinks, $12 pitchers of draft beer, and $25 pitchers of house margaritas. Pair the drinks with the menu’s authentic antojitos (small bites inspired by Mexican street fairs) including braised corn on the cob, yucca fries, and DIY street tacos. 1703 Aliceanna St., 410-299-8480

Points South Latin Kitchen: Take a trip to South America by way of Fells Point at this spirited spot, which pairs its flavorful dishes with a selection of bottled house cocktails and classic piscos, palomas, and margaritas from the bar. This Friday, partake in the restaurant’s Cinco de Mayo party, which will feature specials like $3 glasses of sangria, $5 margaritas, and $3-6 tacos. 1640 Thames St., 443-563-2018

Power Plant Live: Throw on your most festive garb (think sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches) and head to this downtown nightlife district to enjoy live entertainment, piñata bashing, a nacho-eating contest, and food and drink specials at participating bars. At Mex Tequila Bar, for example, revelers are invited to sip $4 beers and $20 45-oz. margaritas, as well as enter to win a free trip to Mexico. 34 Market Place.

The Admiral’s Cup: While strolling around the Fells Point cobblestone, follow the sounds of live music to find this Thames Street staple, which will be hosting a full-blown cerveza celebration in honor of the holiday. The bash will highlight discounted drinks including $3 Miller Lites, $4 Blue Moons, and $5 tequila shots, as well as live happy hour tunes from resident rockers Bedtime for Jack. 1547 Thames St., 410-534-5555, $5

A few weeks back, Nacho Mama’s launched a social media campaign posing a pivotal question to the community: “Where do you want your Nacho Mama’s?”

Sparked by a heated lease dispute between the owners and their landlord, the query has since prompted the use of hashtags like #KeepitintheCity, videos of patrons at the bar raising their glasses and chanting “Stay in Canton,” and tons of feedback suggesting that the Tex-Mex hangout belongs in the neighborhood that it helped build.

Now, the restaurant’s loyal customers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Nacho Mama’s future in Canton is secure.

At a meeting earlier this afternoon, owners Jackie McCusker and Phil Gelso were able to reach an agreement with their landlord John Koukides on the terms of a new lease, which is slated to begin in August of 2016.

“We’ve been on the square for more than 20 years,” McCusker said in a press release. “Having to leave our home doesn’t feel right to me, our staff or our long-term loyal guests. Being able to stay where we are and do what we do is cause for celebration.”

The statement also reveals that input from Canton Community Association president Sean Flanagan had a serious impact on reaching the consensus.

“Sean’s passion and commitment to Canton and its future was a critical factor,” McCusker adds in the release. “He was instrumental in our negotiations and I don’t believe we would have come to terms without his involvement.”

Originally, the parties were at an impasse regarding Koukides’ demands, which included Nacho Mama’s moving to a vacant building nearby and transferring its liquor license to his name. Although details on the terms of the new lease are currently under wraps, Koukides agrees that the decision will benefit the entire neighborhood.

“I am pleased that Nacho Mama’s will remain in Canton. I am happy we reached a mutual agreement for the benefit of all parties involved, including the Canton neighborhood,” he said in a statement. “We are excited about the future of O’Donnell Square.”

This, of course, maintains the legacy that former Nacho Mama’s owner and Jackie’s husband, the late Patrick “Scunny” McCusker helped build when he opened the restaurant in 1994.

“When I first opened, a guy asked me why I put a Mexican restaurant in a Polish neighborhood,” Scunny told us in 2012. “It’s grown from that old-school working class feel to a place where people are settling down with their kids and raising families. I have original customers of mine bringing in their grandkids now, which is a testament to the fact that people don’t just live here, they stay here.”

COMING SOON:

Hampden Ale House: Come February, Hampden locals won’t have to venture far to sample Pratt Street Ale House’s English-style house beers from Oliver Brewing Company. Owners Don Kelly and Justin Dvorkin—who also run spinoff spots in Severna Park and Columbia—have announced plans to expand their tavern concept with a new pub opening on the Avenue this winter. The 150-seat space will offer 50 craft drafts and deliver a menu similar to its sister restaurants, highlighting burgers, salads, and game-day snacks. 901 W. 36th St.

HandleBar Cafe: Despite construction hiccups that delayed its original opening date, this project from local mountain biking champion Marla Streb and her husband Mark Fitzgerald is nearing its final stages. Housed in a former Fells Point warehouse, the quasi-bike and repair shop will boast a 75-seat restaurant featuring breakfast fare, pizza, burritos, and (pending approval at today’s liquor board hearing) beer. Additionally, in keeping with the theme, the cafe will offer delivery service around the neighborhood via cargo bike. The husband-and-wife team estimates that the spot will be up and running by December. 511 S. Caroline St.

CH-CH CHANGES:

Nacho Mama’s: In the midst of a lease dispute with their landlord, owners Jackie McCusker and Phil Gelso have been taking to social media to ask customers where they would like to see this Canton mainstay set up shop, hinting at a possible relocation in the near future. Pending negotiations on the terms of Nacho Mama’s new lease (the currently lease ends in August 2016), the Mexican hangout, which serves its claim-to-fame hubcap margaritas and boasts tons of Elvis-themed décor, could move from its longtime O’Donnell Street home in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates. 2907 O’Donnell St., 410-675-0898

Arômes: Since its debut last spring, chef/owner Steve Monnier has been putting himself on the map with the seasonal prix-fixe menus at this French-inspired restaurant. This month, the Hampden dinner spot is switching things up by replacing its $45 four-course prix-fixe with an à la carte menu of 10 rotating dishes to be served on weekdays. Although the four-course menu will no longer be offered, Monnier’s $65 six-course pre-fixe will be available all week—featuring dishes such as crispy scallops with cannellini beans, beef short ribs with mole miso, and carrot miso crème brûlée. 3520 Chestnut Ave., 410-235-0035.

Camden Pub: Known for its menu full of game-day grub and nightly drink deals, Camden Pub has been a go-to hangout for Orioles and Ravens fans for 25 years. But as of earlier this week, the Ridgeley’s Delight mainstay is on the market. A listing on BizBuySell.com notes owner Pat Liberto’s plans to retire as the reason for the sale. No word yet on any potential buyers, or if changes will be implemented under new ownership. 647 W. Pratt St., 410-547-1280

La Cuchara: This Basque-inspired Woodberry spot is throwing a new happy hour concept into the mix this season. The recently launched “Bivalves in Bilbao” menu is now offered weeknights from 5-7 p.m. and 9 p.m. until close, and invites diners seated at the bar to taste $1 pintxos (bite-sized skewered snacks), slurp $1 oysters, and sip signature firkins of Union Craft Brewing beer, which are tapped weekly.3600 Clipper Mill Road, 443-708-3838

Although there’s no word yet on the reasons for the closure, the post also indicates that the Tapas Adela team has taken over the recently renovated Kali’s Court space next to Mezze. The revamped spot will emphasize shrimp, steak, and martinis, and offer late-night dancing on the weekends. 814 S. Broadway

You shouldn’t take that lime wedge on the side of your drink for granted, as a combination of unfortunate factors in Mexico—including cold weather, drought, disease, and even citrus-hoarding drug cartels—have pushed wholesale lime prices up from around $25 to $100 a case.

Currently, Mexico is the world’s largest producer and exporter of limes, providing nearly 95 percent of U.S. supplies. Needless to say, this shortage is having drastic affects on area bars and restaurants, particularly those that specialize in Mexican fare.

“Yeah, we’re having a big problem right now. It’s very expensive,” says Nicholas H. Ramos V, who owns Arcos Restaurant and Rumba Bar in Upper Fells Point. “For Latinos, they drink all their Corona with lime. So we’ve had to get creative and use an orange or a grapefruit instead.” (Personally, the grapefruit sounds like a genius improvisation).

Not only have the prices been affected but, in turn, the quality of limes coming into wholesale stores like Restaurant Depot is suffering, as well.

“Our limes are ridiculous right now,” says Dean Etheridge, a bartender at Nacho Mama’s, which features tons of wedges in each of its hubcap margaritas. “The limes we’re getting in are so tiny, as small as grapes. We try to fresh-squeeze our margaritas, but it’s difficult with these tiny things. We’re laughing about it.”

While grape-sized limes do sound pretty laughable, the cost for restaurants—especially new ones—is no joke. Carrie Podles just opened Papi’s Tacos Joint and says they go through about three cases of limes a weekend.

“This is my luck that I would open a Mexican restaurant and limes would become scarce,” she says. “We are having to pick through them because most of the limes are damaged or small. Right now, we are only using limes as garnish [for tacos] and buying lime juice by the gallon for our in-house margarita mix.”

While many bars and restaurants are finding alternatives, some are holding strong, hoping this citrus shortage will improve with the warmer months.

“Prices have skyrocketed, but we’re still using them the same way you would expect,” says Holy Frijoles server Nick Jankowski. “We probably won’t substitute here because limes are kind of our thing.”

As Ron Cassie wrote about earlier, we were so incredibly saddened to hear about the death of Patrick “Scunny” McCusker, the owner of Nacho Mama’s and Mama’s on the Half Shell, who was killed riding a bicycle in Ocean City Friday night.

Our thoughts are with McCusker’s family, close friends, and the tight-knit community that he built in Southeast Baltimore. Last year, I interviewed McCusker and asked him why he loved Canton, a neighborhood he was so instrumental in building when he opened Nacho Mama’s 18 years ago:

Canton is like a small town they plucked out of the middle of suburbia and dropped into a city. The neighborhood has a real sense of itself, and a real sense of community. Plus, we have a waterfront for kayaking. We have a huge park for outdoor concerts. We have a lively square and tons of corner bars.

I opened Nacho Mama’s 18 years ago and, along with the owners of Looney’s, Claddagh, and Speakeasy, I’ve watched this neighborhood grow. When I first opened, a guy asked me why I was putting a Mexican restaurant in a Polish neighborhood. It’s grown from that old-school, working-class feel to a place where people are settling down with their kids and raising families.

I have original customers of mine bringing in their grandkids now—which is a testament to the fact that people don’t just live here, they stay here.

Thank you, Scunny, for creating that community. You will be sorely missed.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen and memorial contributions can be made to the Hopkins Children House’s Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation, 6601 Frederick Rd., Baltimore, 21228.

A couple hundred people gathered at O’Donnell Square Saturday to remember Patrick “Scunny” McCusker, the popular owner of two Canton restaurants, who was killed riding a bicycle in Ocean City Friday night.

McCusker, 49, opened Nacho Mama’s 18 years ago and later, Mamas on Half Shell next door, both of which became mainstays of Canton’s revitalization. His wife and two children survive him.

Among those raising a can of Natty Boh in honor and celebration of McCusker was long time friend Dave Claybough. “There was nobody like Skunny,” said Claybough, who knew McCusker for 20 years. “He loved a good adventure and he was generous, always raising money for charitable causes like the Children’s House at Johns Hopkins. And he helped a lot of people in this neighborhood.”

According to an Ocean City police press release Saturday, McCusker was riding a bicycle north on Coastal Highway, in the area of 132nd Street, when he “impacted a city bus that was travelling in the north bound bus lane,” of Coast Highway. Ocean City police are investigating the collision and have not released the identity of the municipal driver.

Those memorializing McCusker at O’Donnell Square included a small of local bicycling activists. Nearly everyone in the city it seems has eaten at McCusker’s restaurants, they noted, hoping, if nothing else, the tragedy should raise awareness of bicyclists on the road among drivers.

‘His restaurant (Nacho Mama’s) was one of my favorites,” said Heather Strassberger of Fells Point. “It was where I went with friends in college and where I had one my first drinks after I turned 21. We don’t know what happened, in terms of this accident and the bus, but there’s a lot of speeding in Ocean City. We need to design roads that slow down traffic and make if safer for everyone. And we need to design roads that are safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.”

Chris Merriam, a member of the Baltimore bicycling advocacy group Bikemore, said he “came to show to support for a fellow cyclist.”

“It happened in Ocean City, but it could’ve happened in Baltimore,” Merriam said. “We have a long way to go before it’s safe to bike everywhere.”

Memorial contributions can be made to the Hopkins Children House’s Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation, 6601 Frederick Rd., Baltimore, 21228.
