As the snow falls, plenty of bars and restaurants are open and ready to provide a warm setting for a tasty cocktail. So brave the cold and head out to a neighborhood spot to take advantage of these food and drink specials. A blizzard in Baltimore is just one big all-day happy hour, after all.

Avenue Kitchen & Bar: This Hampden hangout will be hosting an all-day snow party with discounted eats and drinks from noon to 7 p.m. Bundle up tight and head to the Avenue for cocktail specials (think the sweet frozen rosé or a smoky Paloma) and $20 crab cakes all day. 911 W. 36th St. 443-961-8515

Chez Hugo: There’s nothing like a warm bowl of soup when the temperatures start to drop, and this French bistro downtown is featuring a special soupe a l’oignon combo served with a green salad for $15 during lunch. Stop in to sample the aromatic onion broth topped with a crouton and hearty hunk of melty gruyère cheese. 206 E. Redwood St. 443-438-3002

Don’t Know Tavern: Forget your winter worries and pretend it’s summertime with a $5 Orange Crush at this Federal Hill staple. Don’t Know will also offer $3.50 draft beers and $5 orders of wings throughout the day. 1453 Light St. 410-539-0231

Lee’s Pint & Shell: This Canton hangout is always down for a party, and snow days are no exception. The bar will open early and offer $1 Rumple Minze shots starting at 11 a.m. Stick around for happy hour at 4 p.m. to fill up on $5 mini pizzas, quesadillas, and duck nachos. 2844 Hudson St. 410-327-2883

Lobo: Nothing says cozy like the toasty sandwiches and warm soups at this corner spot in Fells Point, which will be opening early at 2 p.m. Indulge in steamy bowls of pho, as well as happy hour specials on oysters, beer, cocktails, wine, and snacks from 2-7 p.m. 1900 Aliceanna St., 410-327-0303

Looney’s Pub: Discounted drinks will be flowing all day at this O’Donnell Square staple, which is celebrating the snow day accordingly with happy-hour specials starting at 11 a.m. Chow down on $2-off tacos while sipping $2 Miller Lites, $3 Blue Moon bottles, and $4 microbrews. 2900 O’Donnell St. 410-675-9235

Noona’s: Settle in at this Midtown newbie to dig in to hot sourdough pizzas while sipping discounted drinks. The neighborhood gathering spot is highlighting $1-off all drafts and $2-off select wine and cocktails throughout the day. 1203 W. Mt. Royal Ave. 410-424-0857

Order & Chaos: Treat yourself to a frothy latte or piping-hot cappuccino at this Key Highway coffee shop, which is offering 15 percent-off all pastries with the purchase of any coffee beverage. Enjoy a fresh muffin, scone, or signature handheld waffle for a filling snow day breakfast. 1410 Key Highway. 410-244-1111

The Red Star: Both Red Star locations in Fells Point and Charles Village are taking advantage of the wintry weather with happy hour prices all day. Cozy up under the dim lights to sip $5 draft beers, wines by the glass, and well cocktails from lunch until close. Other deals include $9 appetizers (think fried Brussels sprouts and creamy crab dip) and $6 martinis. Plus, the special Connie’s Chicken & Waffles pop-up at the Fells Point location is still on for 5-10 p.m. Multiple locations including 906 S. Wolfe St. 410-675-0212

Vida Taco Bar: Pregame for National Margarita Day (this Friday) with half-priced pitchers at this taco spot in Harbor Point. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows are ideal for watching the snow pile up, and you can’t go wrong with the tacos—filled with everything from Buffalo cauliflower to tinga chicken. 1401 Point St. 443-835-3474

Wet City: In Mt. Vernon, the team at Wet City will be mixing up warm cocktails like a signature mulled cider (dark rum, amaro, mulling spices, and a clove-studded orange peel garnish) as well as a hot toddy made with local cinnamon-walnut Wight Tea, lazaroni amaretto, honey, and lemon. The bar is also highlighting tons of food specials, including cast iron hanger steak, a loaded chili dog, and Nashville hot fried oysters. 223 W. Chase St. 443-873-6699

The Waterfront Hotel: Avoid cabin fever by heading out to this Fells Point favorite for $1-off premium drafts, $2 Natty Bohs, and $4 rail drinks throughout the storm. Pair all of the discounted drinks with warm food specials including $8 pork belly sliders, crab pretzel sticks, curry mussels, and crunchy calamari. 1710 Thames St. 410-537-5055

The Wine Source: Hampden locals in need of provisions should look no further than this neighborhood spirits shop, which is fully stocked with plenty of bottles to hold everyone over until the storm passes. Shoppers buying in bulk will receive 10 percent-off of their purchase when they buy a half case of six bottles, or 20 percent-off when they buy a full case of 12 bottles. 3601 Elm Ave. 410-467-7777

M.Power Yoga Studio is hosting a Rock ‘n Flow event that will feature a beginner’s vinyasa class by instructors Nila Mechali and Lindsay Lusignea, set to a soundtrack of live music performed by Mickey Coviello of bluegrass band Cabinet and ambient tunes from The Herd Brothers. Update: Not surprisingly, Rock ‘n Flow has been postponed to February 12 due to weather.

Pelt snowballs at a bunch of strangers at the Washington Monument.
A couple of planned, neighborhood snowball fights have been cropping up, but we like the sound of this epic event taking place at the Washington Monument at noon on Saturday. (Organizers are also considering moving it to Sunday due to blizzard-like conditions.) Some important rules: stay warm, load up on carbs beforehand, and don’t be a jerk.

When all else fails, head to the bar.
Once you’ve exhausted all your available resources, enjoy one of the most characteristically Baltimore pastimes: trudging down to the corner bar. In all likelihood, they’ll be open and ready to serve. In fact, some of them, like Banditos in Federal Hill, are turning all of these Doppler radar reports into one giant party.

Well this certainly seems like the winter that just won’t end. So before the last flake falls, throw on a pair of Hunters and your favorite snow suit, and make the trek to one of these establishments featuring snow-day specials:

The Rowhouse Grille proclaims this is the “last snow day drinking party of the year (we hope).” The Federal Hill bar will be offering 2-for-1 drinks all day today and its typical happy hour from 4-7 p.m. with $1 oysters, $7 Irish nachos, and a $7 assorted fruit and cheese plate.

The Bagby Group restaurants are getting in on the fun, as Ten Ten is offering an all-day happy hour ($5 wines, $6 cocktails, $4 beers, and various bites from $4-7) plus $1 Korean tacos. Right next door, Bagby Pizza Company will have $2 off beers all day.

Kooper’s Tavern in Fells Point is having a celebrating of Belgian beer on this snow day, with select brews starting as low as $3

Starting at 5 p.m., Max’s Taphouse will begin be offering casks new and select beers like Heavy Seas Desert Island Scottish Ale, Union Balt The More with Orange Zest, and New Belguim Portage with simcoe hops and Snapshot with citra hops.

Speaking of beer, the Federal Hill bar Brewer’s Cask is open early today, with the kitchen coming on board at noon.

Just down the street is Mad River, which never needs much of an excuse to get rowdy. Today, the multi-level bar is offering $15 all-you-can-drink deals and 50-cent wings.

For its part, Dooby’s in Mt. Vernon is boasting an apres-ski theme with “boozy coffees, rich hot chocolates, 12 beers on tap, and food. Lots of food.”

Alexander’s Tavern is celebrating its snow day with $6 pizzas all day, $2.75 for the spicy UFO Gingerland wheat ales, Sam Adams Winter Lager, and Southern Tier 2XMas double-spiced ale. The bar’s happy hour starts at 3.

And, I for one totally agree with what Alexander’s says: “Let’s get this winter stuff out of here, once and for all!”

At first, this snowstorm was called a “bust,” but as the flakes continue to fall in Baltimore, it looks like a snow day is in full effect. To celebrate, many bars and restaurants around town are featuring specials, so bundle up and enjoy:

Cunningham’s: This Towson fine dining spot is lowering its prices for the weather with $1 pork presse (caramelized onion crumble, celery root puree), braised pork cheek (truffle glaze, parsnip puree, and micro greens), black forest cremeux, lamb chops, and crab balls all night long. This will only be available at the light-up bar with its huge glass windows, a great place to take in the snow-globe-like view.

Ten Ten: Another Bagby restaurant, Ten Ten, will be offering $1 Korean tacos at the bar and, since the snow looks to continue overnight, is also highlighting ramen bowls tomorrow through Friday. Options include Pork Tonkatzu (deep-fried pork cutlet in panko, shredded nappa cabbage and tonkatzu sauce) and Shoyu Ramen (wheat noodles, tonkotsu style broth with soy sauce tare, pork belly, pork shoulder, 45 minute egg, bean sprout, scallions, nappa cabbage, bamboo shoots, and nori). Nothing better on a snow day than ramen.

The Rowhouse Grille: This Federal Hill bar will be featuring its usual Monday night special of mussels, $5 mule drinks, and $4 Heavy Seas beer offerings all night. In addition, the bar is featuring a snow day happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks from 4-7 p.m.

Riptide by the Bay: Usually known for its seafood, Riptide is going tropical despite the snow with $5 margaritas and $2 chicken tacos available at the Fells Point spot.

Alexander’s Tavern: This Broadway bar (with an incredibly fun game room upstairs) is getting on the fun, too. In addition to its usual special of $3 off all burgers, the bar will feature happy hour drink pricing all day—$3 drafts and 16 oz. rails, $4 wines, $5 Captain Morgan & Stoli drinks, $1 off all bottled beer, and discounted appetizers.

The Food Market: This Hampden favorite will be featuring happy hour all night (5-11 p.m.) at the bar. There will also be a snow day giveaway where every diner tonight. will be entered to win an all inclusive brunch for four (yep, that includes Bloody Marys.) The drawing will take place at 10:45 tonight.

While some of us are stuck in traffic or glued to our desks for the day, there are plenty of other (read: better) ways to enjoy Baltimore’s first snow of the season. Here we’ve complied some food and drink specials to warm up anyone’s day.

Mahaffey’s Pub: No strangers to snow, the Denver-based Great Divide Brewing Company will have some of its beer featured at Mahaffey’s Pub in Canton. Starting at 3 p.m., guests can sip on Yeti, an espresso oak aged imperial stout while also enjoying Mahaffey’s steak night and giveaways that begin at 6 p.m. 2706 Dillon St., 410-276-9899.

Brewer’s Cask: The Federal Hill beer bar opened a few hours early, at noon today, and is offering three craft beers for $8. Customers can choose from 20 specialty craft beers on tap and also get a half-price burger (which is a new weekly special). 1236 Light St., 410-273-9377.

Sláinte Irish Pub: This Fells Point pub (now with a full three floors of enjoyment) is serving breakfast with $10 bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas. There will also be $6.50 Irish cheesesteaks and $3.50 S.I.P. pints (Sláinte’s house beer made by Oliver Brewing). Sports fans can FA Cup and NHL games live all day. 1700 Thames St., 410-563-6600.

Blue Pit BBQ: Starting just yesterday, Blue Pit BBQ in Woodberry is now serving lunch from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The menu includes items like a bratwurst sandwich on a pretzel roll, chopped brisket, Chesapeake pickleback slaw, and four-cheese mac. If that doesn’t keep you warm enough, the restaurant’s whiskey bar will also be open during lunch. 1601 Union Ave., 443-948-5590.

Hamilton Bakery: If you want to go a bit more wholesome, Hamilton Bakery will be offering a free large cup of coffee with a purchase of any pastry. And not just any coffee, but Zeke’s custom Hamilton Bakery Blend. 5414 Harford Rd., 410-254-0797.

The Wharf Rat: If it’s a huge fireplace you want to curl up next to, The Wharf Rat is your best bet. The bar is running its three half-pints for $8 special today, and the spot’s huge, open hearth will be roaring in the back bar. 801 S. Ann St., 410-276-8304.

The Chasseur will open early at 2 p.m. and serve happy-hour drinks until the snow stops, which shouldn’t be anytime soon.
