Art Space is a recurring element in the UpFront section of our print publication that spotlights a local artist or project making an impact in the city at large. Here’s what’s going on this month:

Brittany Rogers was busy 12 years ago, juggling studies at MICA with her volunteer work at a local reptile rescue. But those two worlds collided when the Baltimore County resident was asked by a professor to bring her rescued animals to class for a nature drawing lesson. After graduation, she launched The Drawing Zoo, offering one-on-one classes from her home studio in Reisterstown, where students can learn artistic techniques in the presence of critters like bunnies and snakes. As an environmental educator at the Irvine Nature Center, Rogers also plans to offer programming so visitors can reap the benefits of naturally inspired art, too.
