Believe Me

Officer, I’m begging you to believe

That never ever have I smoked weed

And please do not tell me that I have to leave

I need to stay in school and continue to read

Picture if you were me

Where everyone believes that you have a baby

By the time you reach the age of a teen

And the only question they ask is if you crip or bleed

But what if that’s not the case

Up my sleeve, I think I have an ace

That can answer the problems that all people face

No matter the skin color, no matter the race

It doesn’t involve mixing baking soda

Or shooting a brother just cause somebody told ya

Or shooting a ball because that’s how they coached ya

Or rapping like Chief Keef, King Sosa.

It’s called education

No matter what you do that should be the foundation
You won’t need a welfare donation

You can live your life and even vacation

I now see some police

Some start riots instead of keeping the peace

That’s the difference between them and me

I see a few bad apples not a whole tree

Some will cause my parents grief

By killing me, by killing me

Like Eric Garner

I cannot breath

But I promise I will garner my responsibilities

I want to succeed

No, I have to succeed

My life will not end at 23

I will beat that expectancy

And have children to carry my legacy

Western School of Technology named Maryland Blue Ribbon School

Congrats to Catonsville’s Western School of Technology and Environmental Science.

The Maryland State Department of Education
announced today that the Baltimore County high school is among six schools selected as a 2014 Maryland Blue Ribbon School.

Schools earning Blue Ribbon recognition this year—based on state and national requirements for high achievement and significant improvement—include Western,
Linthicum Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Cashell Elementary School in Rockville, Robert Goddard French Immersion Elementary/Middle School in Prince George’s County, Frost Elementary School in Allegany County, and Northern Garrett High School in Garrett County.

A magnet school focusing on cutting-edge technological career and experiental science programs,
Western has been recognized previously as a top performing high school by the Washington Post, US News & World Report, and Newsweek.

Western joins Dulaney, Eastern Tech, and Towson as Baltimore County Blue Ribbon high schools in recent years. Overall, 20 Baltimore County public schools have earned Maryland Blue Ribbon recognition with 16 of those going on to earn national Blue Ribbons as well, according to a Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) press release.

“Earning Maryland Blue Ribbon status reinforces the many positive things that are taking place at our school,” Western Principal Murray Parker said in a statement. “I am extremely proud of this accomplishment because it rests on the collaborative efforts of our students, parents, faculty and staff. Congratulations to all Western Tech community members.”

Western is now a candidate for a national Blue Ribbon designation, with those schools to be announced by the U.S. Department of Education in September 2014. Nice work Wolverines!

10 Baltimore County Schools Make ‘Best High Schools’ List

The top six public high schools in the state, according to the recently released, annual U.S. News & World Report
rankings, are all from Montgomery County. However, 10 Baltimore County
Public Schools also made the “Best High Schools” list of the top public
high schools in Maryland.

Towson’s George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology was top-ranked Baltimore County Public School, ranked No. 9
within Maryland and No. 242 overall in the U.S. Among other Baltimore
County schools, Towson High School was ranked No. 12 in the state and No. 268 nationally, while Eastern Technical High School, in Essex, was ranked No. 13 in the state and No. 272 nationally. Dulaney High School, in Timonium, was ranked No. 17 in the state and No. 368 nationally. Hereford High School in Parkton was ranked No. 21 in Maryland and No. 268 nationally.

Winston Churchill High School in Potomac was the top ranked Maryland school and came in at No. 52 nationally.

River Hill High School, ranked No. 7 in Maryland, was the top-ranked
Howard County school, followed by Centennial High School at No. 14.
Severna Park High School, ranked No. 8 in the state, was the top-ranked
Anne Arundel school, followed by Broadneck High School at No. 11.

Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Baltimore School For The Arts,
Western High School and City College High School, ranked No. 38, No.,
40, No. 41 and No. 54, respectively, were the top-ranked Baltimore City
Public Schools in the state.

The categories used in ranking the schools included the
student-teacher ratio, college readiness (measured by the number of
students taking and passing Advanced Placement exams), Algebra
proficiency and Math proficiency.

Overall, the U.S. News & World Report reviewed more than 21,000 public high schools in the U.S., with 64 Maryland schools making its rankings.
