Lee’s Pint & Shell, 2844 Hudson St. 12-10 p.m. $10. 410-327-2883.

There’s a cold front coming in this weekend, but that won’t stop this rebranded Canton spot from shucking some 20,000 free oysters at their fourth blowout block party. Rain, shine, or snow, duck underneath the heated tents to slurp down all-you-can-eat oysters during the last R month of the season, with drinks from the orange crush bar and live performances by local bands like Crushing Day, DJ Nick Paros, and Philly’s beloved Kristin and the Noise. If they run out of oysters, don’t worry—food stands serving up pit beef sandwiches and burgers will be on hand to soak up the crushes.

April 6-7: Beer, Bourbon, & BBQ Festival

We’re impatiently waiting for weekends filled with sunny skies and backyard cookouts, but luckily, this two-day festival will have enough brews and barbecue to tie us over until then. This weekend, make your way to the Maryland State Fairgrounds for unlimited samplings of more than 60 beers, 40 bourbons, and smoky meats from local barbecue joints. While you sip on local brews from DuClaw, Flying Dog, and Monument City—or Maryland-distilled whiskey from Baltimore Whiskey Company and Sagamore Spirit—take part in a tasting seminar or compete in the stein-holding and bacon-eating contests.

We love seeing the way Light City’s art installations reflect off the Inner Harbor, but this year, downtown Baltimore will not be the only place illuminated by glowing sculptures and attractions. This Friday, the can’t-miss festival will kick off its third year with Neighborhood Lights, an artist-in-residence program that pairs notable local artists with community organizers to light up 14 city neighborhoods. Make your way across town to snap pictures of each location’s work of art during this one-weekend-only display.

After two months of performing up and down the continent on their biggest tour to date, post-punk quartet Natural Velvet finally returns home this Saturday to grace The Crown with its rip-roaring sound. On Saturday night, welcome back Kim Te and Spike Arreaga’s searing guitars, Greg Hatem’s propulsive drums, and Corynne Ostermann’s howling vocals as the band perform songs from their latest album, Mirror to Make You—and hopefully their latest cover of Britney Spears’ “Gimme More.” Don’t miss the reunion performance by local heavy metal band Ratboiler (their first show together in years), as well as other opening acts like Baltimore’s indie group Pinkwench and Richmond’s disco punk band Toxic Moxie.

It’s always tempting to sleep in on Sunday mornings, but we’ll gladly throw back our covers and brave the cold for the sweet smell of freshly-cut flowers and homemade bread wafting beneath the JFX. Now in its 41st season, Maryland’s largest producers-only market has become a true weekend ritual for farm-fresh produce, scrumptious eats, and one-of-a-kind vendors. On opening day, join in the hustle and bustle with a Blacksauce Kitchen breakfast sandwich in one hand and a Migue’s Minis made-to-order donut in the other. While there’s plenty to see, be sure to check out the 26 new vendors including Mera Kitchen Collective, The Urban Oyster, and Stupid Delicious Desserts.

Union Craft Brewery, 1700 Union Ave. 7-10 p.m.

We’ve never met a pizza we didn’t like, but Well Craft Pizza takes pies to a whole new level. After revamping a 1949 Dodge Ram truck from a farm in Alabama (complete with a 1,000-degree wood-fire oven and four built-in draft taps), these mobile pizza purveyors decided to hit the Baltimore food scene, serving their cheesy creations at food festivals, breweries, pop-ups, and catering events around town. People instantly fell in love with their creative combinations like Radical Radish, Spinach Chorizo, Chana Masala, and dessert pies like S’mores Please. On Friday, the Best of Baltimore-winning pie-makers will celebrate their one-year anniversary with a bash full of dollar slices, pints of Union Craft beer, and live music at the local brewery.

Monument City Brewing Company, 1 North Haven St., 12-7 p.m.

Brothers Ken and Matt Praay started Monument City Brewing by taking growlers bar to bar in hopes of spreading the word about their Maryland-inspired 51 Rye. Before long, that very beer began to take over taps around town, and now, three years later, they have finally opened a place of their own in Highlandtown. On Saturday, catch the grand opening of the new space, which features a taproom with communal seating, rustic exposed brick walls, a Ping Pong table, and their signature custom wood tap handles by next-door neighbor Mark Supik and Co. Sample snacks from The Local Oyster and other local eateries, listen to live music from The Manly Deeds, and drink down their growing selection of brews. We’ll certainly cheers to that!

Royal Farms Arena, 201 W. Baltimore St., Times Vary. $23-93.

This weekend, join “The Greatest Show on Earth” for what may be their final curtain call. After 146 years of performances, the human-cannonball-ing, lion-taming, tightrope-walking exposition is coming to an end. While the circus has become somewhat controversial with animal rights activists in recent years, this spectacle will go down in history as a family tradition, one that captivated audiences of all ages with a score of fearless daredevil stunts and a cast of charming characters.

1 Olympic Pl., Towson. 12-4 p.m. $30.

WTMD is on quite the winning streak. From expanded First Thursdays concerts to epic live lunches to a new children’s concert series, the local radio station is embracing its love of Baltimore and bringing us awesome events along the way. This weekend, the station is joining forces with 15 of our favorite local breweries for unlimited tastings and tunes at their Towson studio. Beloved beer makers like The Brewer’s Art, Heavy Seas, Flying Dog, and Diamondback will be onsite with everything from tropical saisons to rich double IPAs. But no WTMD event would be complete without an emphasis on local music so while you soak up the suds, jam out to live music from gypsy jazz groups Ultrafaux and Hot Club of Baltimore as well as rabblerousing rock-and-rollers PLRLS.

With 48 farms, 45 vendors, and an average of more than 120,000 attendees each year, Maryland’s largest producers-only market has become a Sunday staple in Charm City for the past 40 years. Nestled under the Jones Falls Expressway, the beloved weekend ritual is a vibrant, fragrant microcosm of Baltimore—teeming with crisp fruits and seasonal vegetables, craft beer and local wine, ice-cold crabs and farm-fresh meat, and, of course, the buttery smell of breakfast biscuits wafting from the grill of Blacksauce Kitchen. Back for its 40th year, don’t miss the chance to hawk local treats from the likes of Hex Ferments, Zeke’s Coffee, The Mushroom Stand, and newcomers like Ekiben and The Baltimore Whiskey Company.

This weekend, the Inner Harbor will smell exceedingly delicious and it won’t just be because of Shake Shack. For two days, for the third years, The Emporiyum food market is back in Baltimore, this time heating up in the former Best Buy on Pratt Street. The warehouse-esque space will fill with dozens upon dozens of straight-up drool-worthy eats and treats, with nearly 100 American-made vendors ranging from D.C.’s Maketto to New York’s Luke’s Lobster to Charm City favorites like The Local Oyster, Clavel, and Ekiben.
Once a busy port riddled with merchants, sea captains, and shipyards that made the famed Baltimore clippers, Fells Point is a neighborhood steeped in rich maritime history. Today, the bustling waterfront is home to water taxis, watering holes, and waterfront views of Domino Sugars, but this Saturday, you can travel back in time at the 12th annual Privateer Festival. Drink like a sailor with pints of Heavy Seas at the grog garden and meander along the stony streets to take in authentic schooners, dockside ship tours, battle reenactments, and live music. Browse locally made crafts, dig into traditional Maryland eats like crab cakes and pit beef, and, if you’re ready for another dram, hop on the Pirate Invasion Pub Crawl to booze around the neighborhood’s many bars.

There’s something intriguing about tattoos. Maybe it’s the story behind the tat. Maybe it’s the art itself. Maybe it’s the painful process of getting one done. But whatever the reason, this weekend’s ninth annual ink show will fulfill your every fantasy. A feast for the eyes, the festival will feature tattoo fans flaunting their skin sketches and award-winning artists creating their very own masterpieces. Whether you’re a tat enthusiast, potential canvas, or curious onlooker, expect everything from intricate etchings to Baltimore pride badges full of Ravens, Orioles, and Bohs.

It’s been six years since Boone Street Farm opened in the East Baltimore neighborhood of Midway. Left vacant for two decades after the demolition of decaying rowhomes, the quart-acre space was transformed from an empty lot into a community garden equipped with a hoop house, small fruit orchard, and market farm. Growing everything from kale and tomatoes to summer squash and black-eyed peas, the farm offers healthy food options, clean neighborhood initiatives, monthly gardening series, and cooking workshops, for starters. This Friday, celebrate their good work with a warehouse party featuring beloved Baltimore acts like Bond St. District (Unkle Lulu for life!), Blacksage, Moss of Aura, Halloween Tres, and local DJs, plus food and drink. Proceeds from the show will support Boone Street’s educational efforts, including a Baltimore City Youthworks summer program, Cecil Elementary School garden club, and internships.

It’s time to revive your Sunday morning ritual. As true locals know, there’s no tradition like waking up early—regardless of how many beers you may have had the night before—to make your way below I-83 for the JFX Farmers’ Market. Beneath the hum of the highway, tote-toting devotees fill the corridors for everything from local meats and farm-fresh produce to fragrant flowers and homemade breads. Best of all, the state’s largest producers-only market, now in its 39th year, also features some of the best breakfast in town, with funky fried fritters from the Mushroom Lady and biscuit sandwiches from Blacksauce Kitchen.

Nov. 1: The Gathering x Hollywood Diner Sunday Funday

Last Sunday you might have noticed something peculiar at the
Baltimore Farmers’ Market under 83. It wasn’t an odd gourd or a gigantic
pumpkin but rather that the long-shuttered Hollywood Diner—you know, the
old-school, silver, greasy spoon of Barry Levinson Diner fame—seemed to have, well, people inside of it. Thanks to The Gathering, the iconic diner is breathing new life again, with the interior
space being used for their new offices and the grounds being used for their
beloved food truck rallies. This weekend, enjoy mobile food eats from noon till 2 p.m., bacon-garnished Bloody Marys
from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and the sounds of Jah Works lead singer Scott Paytner in
the early morning breeze. While you’re at it, bring some items to donate
to the homeless before you refill your totes with groceries, like dry goods, toiletries, or gloves.

Oct. 31: The Brewer’s Art Halloween in the Dungeon

The Brewer’s Art, 1106 N.
There’s a deep dark dungeon in Mt. Vernon that you can spend your Halloween in this year. It’s housed in an old, turn-of-the-century home, and there, in the brick and burgundy red depths, down the wrought-iron railings, spirits come out to play late at night. Drinkable spirits, that is, and this Saturday, the O.G. Bmore brewhouse is throwing an October finale fête with happy hour-priced drafts, prizes for best/original costumes, beer raffles, a zombie dance-off, and trick-or-treating for kids. Don your best mummy costume and indulge in endless Resurrections or go goth in Ozzy Osbourne garb and ironically imbibe in a bounty of Beazlys.

Oct. 30: The Goonies

Hey, you guyyyyyys. Grab your Baby Ruths, blankets, and buds and make haste to Federal Hill this Friday for the last outdoor movie of the year. Cozy up on the hill to watch as this band of merry, middle school misfits embark on a mis-adventurous quest for buried treasure (written by Steven Spielberg, by the way). The 1980s classic will be playing on the side of AVAM, with a flock of food trucks, free museum admission, and strongly encouraged costumes. Just remember to bring a sweater—it’s going to be a chilly 50 degrees—and maybe some beer, too. It is Mischief Night, after all.

Oct. 30: Quinton Randall at The Road to Frozen Harbor: Episode II

A bevy of local and regional talent will be taking over
Rams Head this weekend. Hear eight groups performing across a variety of
genres, including reggae (Tillers Prospect), nu-folk (Leo & Cygnus), and
funk (Sound Makers Union), but make sure you don’t miss Quinton Randall, the young blues musician who gripped Artscape attendees this past
July with his rip-roaring, soulful, Southern brand of blues. Whether he’s doing
an original melody or one of his mean Gary Clark Jr. covers, the 25-year-old
virtuoso is a local artist to keep your eyes on.

Oct. 31: BROS Halloweiner Grimmtacular

Head to Area 405 this Friday and you’ll find the arts space transformed into a fantastical forest like only the Baltimore Rock Opera Society can create. Do you remember the underwater wonderland they made in an otherwise vacant parking lot at this year’s Artscape? Well now they’re tackling the spookiest holiday of the year, so whether you’re coming for the cabaret variety show, costume contest, local bands (psychedelic Americana quintet Voodoo Pharmacology, local punkers Canker Blossom, and BROS’ own Swannage), or witch’s cauldron of booze, it’s bound to be an only-in-Baltimore night.

Although Sunday is a day when most of us like to sleep in, this is an event that’s worth waking up for.

The Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar, held under the JFX at Holliday and Saratoga Streets, returns for the season on April 5 and will run every Sunday through December from 7 a.m. to noon.

With a wide variety of local vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and veggies to handmade crafts, the annual event has been named the largest producers-only market in Maryland, highlighting vendors who make their products from scratch.

Sandy Lawler, the farmers’ market coordinator with The Baltimore Office of Promotion of The Arts, says that a plethora of new sellers have been added to this season’s roster.

“The goal really is to keep striving for more producers-only vendors,” says Lawler. “So we focused on bringing in people like Hex Ferments and other vendors who make really amazing homemade goods—especially those that utilize local farms.”

New favorites include: Hex Ferments, an organic kraut and kimchi purveyor, vegan and vegetarian food truck Sexy Vegie, Rockville-based Magnet Earth Gourmet, and Spanish-inspired bakery Corazon Cakery.

Each week’s festivities also feature family-friendly entertainment from tap dancers and Baltimore Hoop Love hula-hoopers, live music, and cooking demonstrations by local chefs.

“The market is really about education,” Lawler says. “We have chefs that are so willing to help people learn about farmland, what really goes into the bay, how to use whole foods, and why it’s so important that we buy our food locally.”

Also new this year, Mt. Airy-based Dragonfly Farms and Winery will be on hand to replace your typical weekend mimosa with a glass of sangria.

MillStone Cellars and Boordy Vineyards will also be returning, pouring their signature hard ciders and wines for guests to enjoy.

In the wake of a recent legal breakthrough, allowing some local breweries to sell beer at farmers’ markets throughout the state, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market hopes to welcome craft beer options by June.

Lawler says that after a long winter, the community is excited to see what’s in store for the upcoming season.

“It’s such an important part of the social structure of the city,” she says. “It’s about shopping but it’s also about the community—food brings people together now.”

Also debuting is the Bel Air Farmers’ Market, which opens on April 11, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
