Rachel A. Sye serves as chief operating officer of TurnAround Inc., an organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Since joining the organization in 2016, she has played a key role in its growth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic—when a surge in clients prompted a 220% increase in staffing and expansion to two additional offices. This year, Sye celebrates 30 years of work in human services. As a survivor of teen and sexual violence herself, she brings hope and understanding to her role. She has led key projects, such as working with Baltimore City Police to improve how sexual assault victims are interviewed and helping to open Maryland’s first licensed residential program for child victims of human trafficking.
