Editorial Assistant

Full-time, Editorial/Digital

We are searching for an outgoing, eager, self-driven reporter and writer to join our editorial staff. In this role, you will contribute to both our print publication and our daily website, while also assisting senior editors with research, fact-checking, and overall editorial organization. Our ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy, skilled reporter who can stay on top of hard news, as well as take a deeper dive into lengthy feature stories. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Pitch, report, write, and edit news articles for Baltimore magazine’s daily website, including stories on food, arts, community, culture, wellness, and politics. 
  • Pitch, report, write, and edit Metro stories for the magazine’s UpFront section, which covers local news, events, and personalities. 
  • Assist senior editor with creating the magazine’s monthly events section 
  • Assist digital editor with administrative duties such as adding print content to website, updating digital directories, updating archived content, and populating online events calendar as needed
  • Assist research editor with fact-checking UpFront and feature stories as needed.
  • Attend routine storyboard meetings to brainstorm editorial coverage and share pitches.

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (journalism fields preferred)
  • At least 1 year experience (internships included)
  • Strong reporting and writing skills 
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Knowledge of the Baltimore region 
  • Knowledge of WordPress (or a similar CMS) preferred
  • Fact-checking experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Outstanding organizational skills

Digital Sales Specialist

Full-Time, Advertising Department

We are passionate about our town, the people who live here, and the stories we tell.

We are seeking a Digital Sales Specialist to join the advertising sales team. Responsibilities for this position include actively prospecting for new business, consulting on digital advertising opportunities, closing sales, and managing accounts on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prospecting through networking, phone calls, email, and LinkedIn.
  • Understanding the marketing objectives of clients through a consultative sales approach.
  • Creating and presenting clients with customized digital marketing plans.
  • Closing new business and meeting or exceeding monthly sales goals.
  • Managing relationships throughout the entire sales cycle, from initial contact through execution of client campaigns.
  • Professional account management to ensure client retention.
  • Staying on top of digital advertising trends.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous digital marketing and sales experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social media, online display advertising, email marketing, branded content, search marketing, and website/landing page best practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Loyal, honest, high-energy, driven, strong work ethic, good sense of humor.
  • High competency in MS office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Current Internship Opportunities

Editorial Intern: Baltimore magazine is looking for a motivated editorial intern for the spring 2021 semester. This intern will gain real-world experience working with the magazine’s editorial team and the production of our monthly print publication. Until further notice, the internship is remote. All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university and be eligible for academic credit. This is an unpaid internship.

Required Skills:
Strong writing/journalistic abilities
Research skills
-Strong communication skills
-Reliable, trustworthy, and deadline-driven

Preferred Skills:
-Knowledge of AP style
-Knowledge of the Baltimore region
-Fact-checking experience (not a must, but preferred)

Responsibilities Include:

-Collaborating with editor to help produce the magazine’s Front of Book each month. Tasks could include event listings, research, fact-checking, Metro assignments, blogs, and administrative responsibilities.

Baltimore magazine’s digital department is looking for motivated interns for the fall 2021 semester. This intern will gain real-world experience contributing content to the magazine’s daily website. Until further notice, the internship is remote. All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university and be eligible for academic credit. This is an unpaid internship.

Required Skills:
Strong writing/journalistic abilities

-Strong communication skills
-Reliable, trustworthy, and deadline-driven

Preferred Skills:
-Knowledge of AP style
-Knowledge of WordPress (or a similar CMS)
-Knowledge of SEO/social media sharing optimizations
-Ability to capture original photography/videography
-Familiarity with the Baltimore region

Responsibilities Include:

-Pitching well-researched online-exclusive story ideas to the digital editor.
-Reporting, writing, and posting 2-3 web stories per week.
-Overseeing the upkeep of online directories.
-Fact-checking and updating archived content.
