Global Refuge

Located just across from the Inner Harbor, Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service) is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting refugees and other immigrants as they rebuild their lives. Founded in 1939 and headquartered in Baltimore, the organization walks alongside newcomers to the United States at every step of their journey, from navigating housing, school enrollment, and medical care to providing English classes, job training, immigration legal services, and mental health support. With a nationwide network of affiliates, a dedicated Welcome Center in Baltimore, and a recent expansion to Mexico and Central America, Global Refuge emphasizes both local support and international impact.

Amidst federal funding cuts, Global Refuge is committed to keeping up the work of welcome, advocating for just, humane immigration policy, and empowering communities to welcome and embrace refugee and immigrant neighbors.
