A few scattered raindrops on Orioles Opening Day didn’t deter more than 400 fans gathered on the street outside the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum near Camden Yards. In fact, you could say those raindrops were treated more like confetti.

“This is the first day of our year, and it’s like New Year’s and Fourth of July all rolled into one,” said Shawn Herne, the organization’s executive director. Laughter and music filled the air, as guests enjoyed pit beef, oysters, beer, and each other’s company—celebrating the day they’d been waiting for. “With the new [team] ownership and the way they played last year, everybody should be excited,” Herne explained.
