First Maryland Disability Trust, Inc. (FMDT) specializes in cost-effective, special-needs disability trustee services designed to protect, manage, and use trust assets to preserve the beneficiary’s eligibility for public assistance programs.

Nonprofit FMDT was founded in 2005 by a group of disability and elder law attorneys from Maryland who recognized that public benefit programs alone could never meet all the needs of an individual with disabilities.

With a motto of “Trust Starts Here,” we partner with attorneys, financial planners, and disability advocates to create a comprehensive plan that supports the well-being of the whole individual. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life, autonomy, and dignity of those Marylanders with disabilities by providing cost-effective first-party and third-party disability trust management services.

We provide pooled and stand-alone first- and third-party trusts that allow families, friends, and individuals to plan for current and future needs, while protecting eligibility for public benefits.
