University of Maryland Dermatology
SHIVANI PATEL, MD
Pediatric Dermatologist
Lutherville, MD 21093
Shivani Patel, M.D., is a pediatric dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The practice offers the full spectrum of dermatologic care for all ages. However, pediatric dermatologists are rare. Patel and her colleague, Dr. Radhika Srivastava, are among the few practicing in Maryland. At the practice, they treat a wide variety of skin conditions in children including acne, eczema and other skin rashes, and birthmarks such as hemangiomas and port wine stains. They also provide treatment for warts and scars with injections, cryotherapy, and lasers and, though skin cancer is rare in children, they specialize in procedures to remove and examine abnormal moles and skin growths.
“I chose pediatric dermatology because it allows me to care for children during vulnerable stages of development while making a meaningful, long-term impact on their health and confidence,” says Patel. “The specialty uniquely combines complex medical problemsolving with the opportunity to build trusting relationships with both patients and families.”
Patel completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2015 and subsequently completed an internship at Greenville Health System in 2016 and her residency at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2019. She completed a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Johns Hopkins in 2020.
University of Maryland Dermatology is growing. In just this past year, it opened two new dermatology practices in Lutherville and Columbia, in addition to the practice in downtown Baltimore, and has brought on 10 new physicians.
What sets the University of Maryland Dermatology apart, beyond being one of the only systems with two fellowship-trained pediatric dermatologists, is our ability to deliver the latest research and treatments to patients within a community setting, while providing care that is both compassionate and patient-centered.
