Dr. Vera Kurdian has built her career advocating for children and families. After growing up in a war-ridden country plagued with devastation, tragedy, and violence, she recognized early on that her passion was to improve the lives of individuals. Kurdian worked at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for 13 years, improving the lives of children impacted by abuse and neglect. Now, as the CEO of Advanced Behavioral Health (ABH), she’s leading a dedicated team of professionals who provide mental health services within Maryland communities.

The team in Baltimore actively works with different entities, including the Department of Social Services and the school system. ABH specializes in psychiatry, medication management, off-site and on-site counseling, teletherapy, school therapy, and therapeutic mentoring to children aged 5-18. The team provides therapy for those who are impacted by environmental and emotional barriers due to childhood trauma.

Kurdian’s efforts and dedication are truly changing lives, one family at a time. She believes her organizational growth is due to her amazing employees, who show up every day. She often tells her staff, “You are the heartbeat of ABH and without you, there would be no ABH.” She manages the team with heart, integrity, and transparency, which promotes organizational and professional growth.

Kurdian’s dedicated, diverse team works tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of the families they serve. Her vision is to see healthy families and communities that are supported by the wraparound approach ABH provides. She advocates to serve families through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. Kurdian leads by example and inspires her team each and every day to show up for their clients and provide the stability they need. Her commitment to Maryland communities ensures mental health is a priority.
