Beach House is Apparently Collabing with Kanye West—And the Internet Has Things to Say

Ye posted a series of in-studio snapshots with Baltimore's beloved dream pop duo over the weekend.

Between a quest to win his wife back—which resulted in a short-lived and misguided tryst with Uncut Gems star Julia Fox—public meltdowns, and his not-so-private beef with half of Hollywood, it’s been a busy year for Ye (and yes, we’re only three months in). The controversial rapper and designer sneaker mogul we once officially knew as Kanye West, until he changed his name to Ye last year, has made a splash on Instagram in recent weeks with dozens of sporadic, now-deleted posts.

But things seem to have mellowed out (for now, at least). Last week, following a live streamed performance of his new album Donda 2 in Miami, Ye announced that it would be released exclusively on Stem Player—a small, handheld device that allows users to manipulate the different parts of songs. Artists such as Travis Scott, Alicia Keys, and Soulja Boy are featured on the semi-released sequel work to Donda. And rumored to be added to the list of guest performers is one of Baltimore’s most cherished indie duos.

In a series of snapshots he posted to Instagram over the weekend, the rapper can be seen in his studio alongside Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand of the Baltimore-born shoegaze duo Beach House, which took off almost 16 years ago with the release of their self titular album. (Read our 2019 interview where we asked Scally and Legrand to share their favorite Beach House tracks of all time, here.) And while neither could be reached to shed light on their ties to West, it’s probably for good reason. The pair is busy touring to promote their latest double album “Once Twice Melody.”

Naturally, the Twitterverse responded to the photos right away with what appear to be mixed feelings on the unlikely collab. Here’s what people are saying:
