From the city's annual Tom Miller tribute to the Lunar New Year celebration at The Walters, here are the top happenings to mark on your calendar this month.

2/15-2/21. TOM MILLER WEEK
Exhibitions. Many Baltimoreans may not realize that they already know works of art by Tom Miller. This iconic Baltimore artist’s colorful, vibrant murals linger around many corners of the city, with his unique Afro-Deco style representing the Black experience and enlivening local neighborhoods from Station North to Cherry Hill. Miller attended Carver Vocational-Technical High School and was one of the first Black students to enroll at the Maryland Institute College of Art after its desegregation. He was also one of the first local Black artists to have a solo exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1995. With deep roots in Baltimore, Tom Miller’s legacy is honored for the sixth year with a full week of community events and exhibitions dedicated to the artist and his work at various locations across the city. 2/5. HANDMADE WITH LOVE
Lectures & Classes. Using inspiration from historic Valentine’s Day cards, beloved papercut artist Annie Howe teaches the basics of her medium and how to create custom handcrafted patterns, with students creating their own unique designs. Enoch Pratt Free Library, 400 Cathedral St. 1 p.m. Free.
2/6-8. BALTIMORE CRANKIE FESTIVAL
Performing Arts. During this locally loved annual festival—the largest of its kind in the U.S.—artists from near and far unveil their handmade crankies, aka scrolled panorama folk art that visually aids a story or song. 2/6-3/1. AUGUST WILSON’S FENCES
Theater. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the story of Troy Maxson, a former Negro League baseball star wrestling with resentment that he didn’t live out his dream on the field, illuminating the invisible fences that keep us from making our aspirations reality. Lectures & Classes. Learn about Maryland’s Black culture of the past, present, and future through interactive activities, crafts, STEM programs, and meet-and-greets with community members who are impacting the trajectory of local Black history today. Fundraisers & Galas. Comedy. Best known for his work as host of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” and his New York Times bestseller “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood,” this fan-favorite comedia takes to the Mount Vernon stage with his latest stand-up spiel on a new tour. Theater. Emmy Award–winning writer and producer Lena Waithe presents her playwriting debut, “trinity,” with the story following three women acting out the fantasies that they are too afraid to live out in reality, with their whimsical role-play transforming into an existential adventure. 2/13. BSA BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHOWCASE

2/13-16. BELGIAN BEER FESTIVAL

Comedy. Who better to spend Valentine’s Day with than the Pope of Trash? Join John Waters for his one-man show that takes you on a deep dive into his ingenious mind, creative process, and early artistic influences—all sprinkled with his usual filthy flavor. Family. For over 20 years, Ladew Gardens has invited visitors to take part in the art of making maple syrup. 2/21. LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
Festivals. Celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, which represents the seventh year of the 12-year Lunar calendar cycle. In this Black History Month discussion, learn about the Baltimore Black Sox, the city’s historic Negro League baseball team which navigated segregation on and off the field, making an impact on the local Civil Rights Movement. Exhibitions. During this annual group show by the tastemaking Galerie Myrtis, a curated exhibition will be on display, featuring exceptional works of art by a diverse array of African-American and African Diasporic artists, including several from the Baltimore area. 2/24-28. CIAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Sports. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is the first African-American athletic conference and a celebrated Division II.
