Baltimore Magazine Honored With Nine CRMA Nominations
City magazine association recognizes work in art, digital, editorial, and weddings categories.
Earlier this week, the City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA) released the list of finalists for its annual industry awards, and Baltimore magazine was honored to receive a total of nine nominations. The magazine was recognized with nods for editorial, art, digital, and weddings coverage, as well as in the coveted General Excellence category.
For 36 years, more than 100 CRMA judges representing publications across the country have selected finalists in the annual competition. This year, Baltimore is among 175 contenders that were narrowed down—in coordination with The Missouri School of Journalism—in 32 categories.
The magazine’s editorial team was proud to receive a nomination in the Special Issue category for their August cover story, “A Moment of Reckoning,” a piece helmed by senior editor Lydia Woolever which shared reactions and hopes for the future from Black leaders in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Additionally, food and dining editor Jane Marion was named in the Food or Dining Feature Package category for her October cover story, “The Great Restaurant Reinvention,” detailing how local restaurants have pivoted throughout the pandemic.
Creative director Amanda White-Iseli and contributing photographer Scott Suchman received a Spread Design recognition for their work on “French Revolution,” a story about Roland Park mainstay Petit Louis Bistro. And, under the stewardship of managing editor Janelle Erlichman Diamond and art director Staci Lanham, Baltimore Weddings took home a nod in the Ancillary: Weddings category.
On the digital side, Baltimore’s website was recognized for Excellence Online. Digital senior editor Lauren Cohen, contributing digital designer Aaron Hope, and assistant art director Angeline Leong were also pleased to have been given three nominations for Multiplatform Storytelling. Among them are the web designs for “Into Thin Air,” Lydia Woolever’s deep dive into Maryland’s rapidly disappearing bird population; “Rising Son,” Max Weiss’ profile of Baltimore-born actor McCaul Lombardi; and “Try to Remember,” contributing writer Leah Eskin’s collection of oral histories from Baltimore Holocaust survivors.
Last, but certainly not least, the magazine’s entire staff was acknowledged with a nomination in the prestigious General Excellence category for the second consecutive year. As always, Baltimore is honored to be included among such distinguished colleagues in the national publishing industry—knowing that we could not have been recognized without the support of this city.
Judges named five finalists in each category and will announce the final winners at CRMA’s virtual conference in May.
